202nd Street (County Road 50) Reconstruction

Beginning at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, County Road 50 (202nd Street) will close to all traffic from east of the Highview Avenue intersection to Cedar Avenue for completion of the Phase 2 improvements. Access to Aronson Park and Quigley-Sime Park will continue to be from the Quigley-Sime Park entrance through the temporary gravel roadway. The project improvements are proposed to be completed by June 19 and opened to all traffic at that time.

Dakota County, in partnership with the City of Lakeville, is reconstructing 202nd Street to a 2-lane divided roadway from Holyoke Avenue to Cedar Avenue. For more details and to sign up to receive email updates on this project, go to Dakota County's website.

Project Overview

The project includes a roundabout at 202nd Street and Holyoke Avenue, traffic signal at 202nd Street and Cedar Avenue, dedicated turn lanes at intersections, a pedestrian underpass (with lighting) and trails along both sides of the roadway, and site distance improvements at Hamburg Avenue by lowering the intersection 11 feet.

Improvements to Aronson Park will also be completed with the project, including relocating access to the park to align with Heath Avenue, regrading soccer fields to add field space and improve drainage, improving parking, and constructing a stormwater re-use irrigation system. The stormwater re-use project will be completed through a partnership between the City, County and Vermillion River Watershed, including grant funding from the Board of Water and Soil Resources.

Phase 1: April-July 10, 2019

Phase 2: July 22-November 2019

County Road 50 has reopened to traffic.

Due to the unfavorable fall weather, the contractor will need to continue work on the project in 2020, at which time the County anticipates closing the roadway to traffic between Highview Avenue and Cedar Avenue. The remaining work includes trail construction, final lift of asphalt paving, Aronson Park improvements (field grading, irrigation installation, restoration, driveway and parking lot construction), and restoration along the project corridor. More information will be provided in the spring of 2020 regarding the schedule for the remaining work.
All side street accesses are also now open along County Road 50, with the exception of the new access into Aronson Park. Until the remaining project work is completed, access into Aronson Park will continue to be provided at Highview Avenue via the temporary road through Quigley-Sime Park.
